Frequently Asked Questions

Is everything really allergen-free?

Yes! Every item on this website is created without any of the Top 8 Allergens. To see the full ingredient list for any specific product, please visit the individual product page. Please see the disclaimer at the bottom of the page for kitchen information.

What are the Top 8 Allergens?

According to the FDA, the 8 most common food allergens are Gluten/Wheat, Dairy, Eggs, Soy, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Shellfish, and Fish.

How long do your baked goods stay fresh?

All Free & Clear baked goods are made without any preservatives, so the sooner you enjoy them, the better! If in an air-tight container, I recommend no more than 48 hours at room temperature, 1 week in the fridge, or 1 month in the freezer.

Bread items will go stale much quicker than desserts, so immediately storing leftovers in the freezer is the best way to keep them soft and delicious!

What size cake should I get?

*These numbers are based on 3-layer cakes.

Mini Cake - 8 slices

6" - 12 slices

8" - 24 slices

What are layers?

When it comes to cakes, "layers" refers to how many layers of cake are inside, each separated by frosting. Each standard cake layer is about 1" in height.

For example, a 3-layer cake will have three layers of cake with two layers of frosting in between (excluding exterior frosting and decorations). So, from the bottom, the layers would be: cake, frosting, cake, frosting, cake, exterior frosting and decoration.

What is a double layer?

See the FAQ above for details about what a layer is. A double layer simply means twice the amount of batter, so each cake layer would be twice the height of a regular layer. It's perfect for those who prefer more cake than frosting!

Why can't you ship your desserts?

Due to Texas Cottage Baking Law (SB 572), baked goods made in a home kitchen cannot be shipped. However, I do offer curbside pick-up and delivery!

Why can't you make anything that requires refrigeration or freezing?

Due to Texas Cottage Baking Law (SB 572), baked goods made in a home kitchen must be shelf-stable and cannot require refrigeration or freezing.

Do you have a storefront?

Not yet! In the future I plan to open an actual brick-and-mortar bakery, but for now, Free & Clear Bakery is strictly a home bakery.

Where are you located?

My home bakery is located in Tomball, Texas, near the intersection of SH 249 and SH 99 (Tomball Tollroad and Grand Parkway). While I do not have a storefront at this time, curbside pick-up is available for your order! Just add the "Pick Up" product in order to receive my address after check-out. Alternatively, delivery is also an option!

Why can't you design a cake based on a favorite character?

Due to strict copyright laws, I cannot use any copyrighted content, including characters, symbols, toys, etc.

I can, however, create a cake with a specific color scheme and style, and leave room for you to add your own toy or copyrighted merchandise.

Why do you use food colorings that contain dyes?

I'm actually currently working on removing all artificial dyes from my inventory. The main issue is that natural food colorings tend to be very subdued, so every product ends up being quite pale. This means you won't be able to get the vibrant colors in my Red Velvet cake or rainbow frostings, for example.

I am determined to be completely dye-free though, so keep an eye on my Frosting Ingredients page or my social media for updates!
